Before 2020, but not long before, the first university in the US or EU will consider blogging a form of publication when making tenure and promotion decisions. However, this will have less of an impact than one might expect, as a growing proportion of scientist bloggers are not tenure-track faculty, but instead are entrepreneurs, self-employed, or amateurs.
