Within the last three years there has been increasing interest in the use of field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) as a new revolutionary supercomputing architecture. FPGAs are semiconductors that can be software configured by customers or designers after manufacturing. They can be used to implement any logical function of a classic computing chip but their reconfigurability after design offers great potential flexibility.
The last two years have seen increases in a startlingly new trend, the use of the Internet to coordinate or televise suicides (cybercides). Even more disturbing has been the use of live video and chat rooms to broadcasting "real time" suicides.While these events are few in number, the deeply disturbing behavior of live televised suicide with a sickening encouragement from individuals who devalue human life is likely to result in calls for increased regulation of streamed Internet video.
The MacArthur Foundation recently funded one of the first multi-year efforts to analyze and evaluate youth behavior online. The study, conducted as part of the Digital Youth Project, was exhaustive and included hundreds of structured interviews, over 5000 hours of observation, and analysis and review of over 10,000 MySpace and Facebook pages.[2]
